Pumpkins!!

I remember Trick-or -Treating as a child and seeing the most amazing pumpkins. I have always wanted to try and create a very artistic pumpkin ... but I always end up with the generic triangle eyes, square nose, and jagged smiled pumpkin. The reason that I end up with the generic pumpkin is that I get too excited to carve the pumpkin that don't take my time. My goal this year is to try and carve something different. I am inspired by the images of the following pumpkins...

I would love to try and take my time to carve a pumpkin. This is a fun way to do visual arts!

Hopefully I can find the time during practicum to do some pumpkin carving!!

  1. Haha! I can totally relate Michelle! I really hate carving pumpkins because they always end up too generic, and I wish I could create something amazing, but I'm too impatient. I've vowed that this year I will not spend any money on pumpkins...we'll see if my 6 year old lets me get away with it!

  2. I attempted to venture out last year and make this cool, fancy pumpkin…. Hence the ATTEMPT part! Haha it did not work out very well due to my lack of art skills. It was a lot of fun though, nice alternative to the typical pumpkin you were mentioning!

I carved a pumpkin with my kindergartens in practicum and it was so neat! I only carved one pumpkin and had them all stand around a rainbow table and take turns scooping out the 'goo'. It worked so well and I tied it into math for measurement and weight. Great activity to engage the students and get them away from the lessons at the carpet or tables.
